Hi there! I’m Frank, founder of Xipene Safaris.
I grew up amidst the breathtaking landscapes of South Africa’s Limpopo Province, and developed an unwavering passion for the natural world from an early age. It was in the small town of Hoedspruit, nestled at the gateway to the Greater Kruger National Park, where my love for wildlife and conservation truly took root. My connection to nature runs deep, thanks in large part to my grandfather, a man of remarkable character
and a profound respect for wildlife.
After working permanently as a safari guide for nearly ten years, the time came for me to share my passion for this natural environment with a broader audience by founding Xipene Safaris. As a boutique travel agency, I realized that we could offer something truly special and unique. We’re not just about taking you on a typical safari; we’re dedicated to crafting experiences that are tailored to your individual priorities and interests.

My vision is to share the natural wonders I was fortunate enough to grow up with — the wild beauty that shaped my love for safari. about the name
Meet the elusive Steenbok
Also known as Xipene (pronounced shee-peh-neh)—a name rooted in Shangaan, one of our local languages.
This small but resilient antelope roams vast parts of Southern and East Africa, thriving in diverse landscapes. Weighing around 12kg, their compact size and incredible adaptability make them masters of survival. Unlike many other animals, they don’t rely on water sources, instead getting moisture from fresh green shoots and even digging up roots and bulbs—an impressive skill in the African bush!
But Xipene isn’t just a name to me—it’s a part of my journey. When I began my professional guiding career in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, my tracker, Humphrey, and I were the smallest guiding team at the lodge. That’s when I earned the nickname Xipene, a title I’ve embraced ever since.
The steenbok is recognized for its resilience, adaptability, and ability to navigate challenges with quiet determination – all of which are qualities I aim to embody. That’s why I chose to name my company Xipene Safaris.
